Visit Wakkerstroom for a true Platteland experience with fun activities such as hiking, walking, mountain biking, and fishing! Wakkerstroom is in Mpumalanga and borders on the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The town offers three historical walks, namely the War Memorial, The Harvey Greenacre’s and the Court House. The Wetland Reserve trails offers a nature trail that focus on the fauna and flora in the area, and the abundance of birdlife.
Wakkerstroom Ossewakop Hikes:
Follow paths that was made by cattle grazing. Now and then hiking paths may fade out, but you will not get lost as the Village is visible from the mountain. Discovering different hiking paths is all part of the fun of hiking on the mountain. The hiking paths will take you through a small wetland and others to the top of the mountain. On the western shoulder of the mountain, there is a view of the Zaaihoek dam. On your way back, you can follow the same hiking path back or find a new path.
Fishing – Fly fishing at the Martins and Zaaihoek dam.
Bird watching – The area is a world-renowned birding destination.
Mountain biking – Explore the wetlands on a bicycle on the various routes.
