This two-and-a-half-hour kayak and lilo adventure up the Storm River Gorge is the Tsitsikamma National Park is one of the most popular activities for a couple of good reasons. This excursion is not limited to only paddling, it includes several phases where you get to explore deeper into the hidden world of the Storms River Gorge and also experience the long bottomless pools, deep caves, and ancient forest with only the sound of the water and the stillness of nature surrounding you.
You will start your excursion along the beach from the harbour passing under the suspension bridge and from here you can brace yourself for the start of your exciting adventure. You will pass the beautiful scenic Storms River Gorge, go treasure hunting, go straight into a bat cave, and also spend some time gazing up the spectacular cliffs all around you in your comfortable double-seater kayak.
When you reach the low water point, you will say goodbye to the kayak and hello to a new kind of vessel, a lilo as they call it. The lilo is a small inflatable boat that is designed specifically to access the narrow parts of the gorge, and after a short walk over the rocks, you will be floating up the river feeling quite small when you look up and compare yourself to the imposing cliffs surrounding you. This magical feeling always reminds me of how great nature really is.
A healthy part of adrenaline is added on the final part of the excursion when you are given the exhilarating opportunity to leap off the overhanging cliff walls of the gorge into deep pools, this offers not only a good test of bravery but also a good occasion to have a laugh, and a one of a kind photo. Cliff jumping is not mandatory, you can opt to simply enjoy the adventure as you float along the pools below.
