Hike in the unspoiled Waterberg ecosystem with spectacular wildlife and an abundance of birdlife. Stamvrug Hiking Trails is within the Bateleur Nature Reserve in the Waterberg. Bateleur Nature Reserve is approximately 25km from Bela-Bela and Modimolle (Previously Nylstroom) and approximately 120km from Gauteng.
There are 10 different hiking trails to choose from, which range from 4km to 12km. Hikers can choose a trail according to their respective fitness and experience levels as they are suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. While on the trails, you get to enjoy stunning views of ravines, streams, grassy plains, and hills. The total length of all the trails is about 80km.

There is also a 2-day backpacking trail that starts at the Kloof base camp and ends at the Stamvrug base camp via the Kloof trail (13km), and the second day’s hiking goes along the Leopard trail (11.8km).
