Explore and enjoy one of South Africa’s most beautiful and famous towns in the Western Cape, Ceres. We looked around and found that one of the best ways to truly enjoy the stunning mountain landscapes and valleys, is by train. You can relax and enjoy a slow journey with some friendly company while passing some scenic views, and you will be amazed at what you will see along the way.
Ceres Rail Company’s train experience is like no other, they have restored a couple of historic steam locomotives which are used for the railway trips.
Every second weekend, from Friday to Sunday, visitors get to enjoy the railway experience, and there is nothing quite like hearing the puff-puff sound of the locomotive! The railway trip’s duration is about two and a half hours. The train ride will start at Demeter Station at Ceres Golf Estate and travel to the magnificent organic wine and olive estate, Waverley Hills. Here you will get the opportunity to spend some time at the winery, I recommend experiencing the wine tasting! Thereafter, the train will continue the ride to Wolsely, and turn around back to Waverley Hills.
To enhance your memorable experience at Ceres Rail Company, they have given each locomotive a unique name, there is Jessica, Baily, and Red Devil. Jessica is an A-Class 19D English locomotive, Baily an A-Class 19 German locomotive, and Red Devil an A-Class 26 locomotive. For all the train lovers out there, you will not be disappointed!!
You can pre-order a meal hamper before getting on the train to enjoy throughout the railway journey, and they even have a cash bar available! Book your seats and get on board one of these iconic locomotives! The prices for this once in a lifetime experience are as follow (correct as at the time of posting this blog):
