If you are out and exploring the Free State, consider heading out to Camelroc Guest Farm for a couple of nights’ stay with fun activities. Located at the Caledonspoort Border near Fouriesburg, Camelroc Guest Farm is the perfect location from where you can explore the Free State and Lesotho. The luxury accommodation and activities like hiking, mountain biking, and 4×4 trails will have you coming back for more.
The Farm has two hiking trails. The trails are also are open for day visitors with permits.
First hiking trail – The trail is a 9km challenging hike up the mountain. There are some strenuous climbs with names like “Heartbreak Hill” and “Moedbreek Hoogte”. From there, you can choose between two routes, the one being more challenging than the other. Once you crossed the bridge, you will head to The Camel Head, which is the pinnacle of the trail. Continue on the plateau towards Caesar’s View, and your descend from the mountain will start. Pass through a shaded gorge, above the Caledon River, and the trail ends at the river.
Second Trail – This trail is a combination of mountain and riverine tail of 3km. Pass a cave named “Grot Woning” which was previously inhabited.
The routes are single-track trails that are laid out in the mountains. The figure 8 route which ends at Camelroc stretches 10km. The second route is 30km and there are two shortcuts, that shorten the route to 20km and 10km, respectively. The route is technical with tough climbs up the mountain, and you will wind through the trees, ride along the Small Caledon river, and climb the mountain.
Enjoy the 6km 4×4 track with your own off-road vehicle. The track is quite challenging and will take about an hour to complete.
If you want a more relaxed time, you can spend time next to the swimming pool, walk around the mountain or relax next to a fire. The farm also has over 70 species of birds to see.
